Boy rushed to hospital after being hit by several cars on M5 motorway

A child has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by several cars on the M5 motorway.

It is understood the boy was on foot on the carriageway at the time of the incident.

The air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, but the boy was then taken by road to Birmingham Children's hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

The boy is believed to be in his teens and enquiries into how he came to be on the busy motorway are ongoing.

Police say the incident happened at around 11.20am on Wednesday (August 5) between junction 2 at Oldbury and Junction 3 at Quinton.

The road remains closed while investigation work continues at the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: “The boy was on foot at the time of the incident.

“He has suffered serious injuries. He was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital; the doctor from the air ambulance travelled with the boy to hospital.

“There were no other patients.”

West Midlands Police said: "The M5 is currently closed in both directions between junctions two and three after a pedestrian was hit by several cars at around 11.15am today (5 August). The pedestrian, believed to in his teens, has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."

They said enquiries are at an early stage but have urged anyone with information to contact them online or by calling 101 quoting log number 1469 of August 5.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area which has been closed off southbound and northbound following the incident, with delays of over an hour on the road.
