Boy rushed to hospital after being hit by car as police shut road

A boy has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Middleton.

The pedestrian, believed to be aged 12, was struck by a vehicle on Windermere Road on 1.45pm on Friday.

The boy was taken to hospital with a head injury via land ambulance.

A rapid response vehicle and an air ambulance were also sent to the scene.

Windermere Road has been closed in both directions between the junctions of Ennerdale Road to Thirlmere Drive.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said: "We were called to a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle on Windermere Road at 13.46.

"We have sent a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance and an air ambulance to the scene.

"We have treated a male patient, approximately aged 12, and we have taken him to hospital with a head injury."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: "Shortly before 13.49pm today (Friday 17 January 2020), police were called to Windermere Road in Middleton to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.

"Emergency services are in attendance and the pedestrian – a 12-year-old boy – has been taken to hospital with head injuries.

"Windermere Road is currently closed at the junctions with Thirlmere Drive, Buttermere Road and Langdale Drive."
