Boy riding moped injured after hit and run

A boy has been taken to hospital with multiple broken bones after a hit and run in Liscard.

The 13-year-old was injured when a silver car hit the moped he was riding on the back on Rake Lane , near the junction with Longland Road this afternoon (June 8).

It is thought that shortly before the incident two mopeds had been seen riding in tandem around the area causing damage to parked cars.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered a broken arm and leg but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The moped the boy had been on was abandoned and the other bike fled the area.

Merseyside Police are currently investigating reports of criminal damage to cars in the Liscard area and are trying to establish what led to the hit and run.

Detective Inspector Tony O’Brien said: “This investigation is at an early stage but we do believe damage may have been caused to vehicles in the Rake Lane area this afternoon.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area who witnessed anything or anyone who believes they have dash-cam footage which may have captured anything significant to get in touch. I would also ask for anyone who believes their vehicle has been damaged this afternoon to contact us.

“We are also keen to trace the driver of the silver car as we believe they have information which could be vital to our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 429 of 8 June
