Boy rammed off his bike by 'scruffy' man driving Mercedes 4x4 car through park

A boy was rammed off his bike by a 4x4 car in an "appalling" attack.

The 16-year-old victim was knocked off his bike in Stanley Park, Anfield, by a silver Mercedes ML 4x4 on Monday, August 16, at around 8.30pm.

The boy suffered injuries to his neck, wrist and hip and was taken to hospital for treatment from the scene, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Detectives say that while they're keeping an open mind, they believe it may have been a case of mistaken identity.

The driver of the car was described as white, scruffy and in his 30s.

Officers are now appealing for information to trace the car and the driver.

It is believed that the car came from the direction of Stanley Park car park via Priory Road and drove through the park to deliberately hit the teenager.

There is expected to be some damage to the front of the car following the attack.

Detective constable Richard Whates said: "This was a distressing experience for the victim, who thankfully didn't sustain more serious injuries.

"We're keeping an open mind as to the motive, but think it may have been a case of mistaken identity.

"We've spoken to some witnesses to this incident, but are keen to speak to anyone who either saw what happened, or captured the details of this vehicle on CCTV, dashcam or other devices.

"Given the impact, there will have been some damage to the front of this vehicle, so if you have noticed any similar vehicles with unexplained damage, let us know.

"To drive through a public park and deliberately into a teenager is appalling, and we're determined to find the person responsible and put them before the courts."
