Boy punched and kicked at knifepoint in sickening park attack while teenager films it

A 17-year-old boy was attacked at knife-point in a Liverpool park in a sickening assault captured on video.

The attack occurred in Botanic Park, Edge Hill, on Friday, 26 June and left the boy with bruising and swelling to the face, in what police are calling 'an unprovoked attack'.

The sickening attack, captured on video, shows two youths standing over the victim with one repeatedly punching him in the face while holding a knife in his other hand.

The video shows one youth filming while the other hurls abuse at the victim before aiming further punches and kicks.

During the attack, the boy also suffered cuts to his back and thigh after he was reportedly also slashed with a knife.

The 17-year-old was assessed at hospital but was discharged soon after.

According to a horrified witness, who captured the footage, the incident happened in broad daylight at around 6.20pm.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have information about the attack to come forward.

Detective Inspector Sean Kelly-Martland, of Merseyside Police, said: "We believe this was an unprovoked attack on the victim following a brief altercation.

"While the victim's injuries are thankfully minor, it had nevertheless caused him a great deal of distress, and could easily have been worse.

"Part of this incident was filmed, and we believe there were others who may have witnessed it.

"If you were in the park at around 6.20pm on Friday and may have seen part of the incident or the offenders, or heard since who may have been responsible, we want to hear from you."

Anyone with information on this assault is asked to contact Merseyside Police social media desk via Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’.
