Boy of 12 denies raping six year old girl in primary school

A young boy has denied raping a six-year-old girl at a primary school in Australia.

The unnamed 12-year-old's plea was filed by his lawyer.

Another boy of 12 is also accused of rape and will go to court on 20 October, having already been granted bail.

The first boy was charged with three counts of aggravated indecency in company, two counts of sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 and one count of indecent assault, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The second boy is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault and sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10.

The alleged attack took place at a primary school on the suburban Northern Beaches district of Sydney.

James Viney, the boy’s defence lawyer, asked for changes to bail conditions to allow the boy to go on holiday.

There was some debate in court regarding media coverage of the case, the Herald reported.

Mr Viney said the boy was at a “delicate age”. The judge agreed the media presence could have an impact on the boy but said the court system tried to make the process as easy as possible.

The case has been referred to the Department of Public Prosecutions and the boy’s next hearing will be on 24 November.
