Boy, nine, dragged out of tiny gap of car wreckage after shocking crash

A nine-year-old boy hurt in a car crash was dragged through a "tiny gap" in the wreckage after becoming trapped.

Harry Harrison was a front seat passenger in a Peugeot that crashed with a "carelessly driven" Volkswagen Golf during morning rush hour in Seaforth on Tuesday.

The youngster was being driven home by his dad's girlfriend after he felt too sick at the gates of Forefield Junior School in Crosby to attend classes.

However it was during the journey home when the accident happened on Princess Way/Sandy Road at around 9.05am.

It was revealed how a man who witnessed the collision sprinted over to the scene and helped to rescue Harry.

Merseyside Police earlier told the ECHO the boy was 19, however this was incorrect and his family confirmed he is nine-years-old.

One worried relative, who rushed to the scene after getting a phone call from the 33-year-old female driver, described her horror to see her nephew lying injured on the ground.

The family member told the ECHO : "It was terrible.

"Harry was on the floor, and somebody had dragged him out of the car.

"One of the cars was smoking, and our car was squashed up against the railings.

"The firefighters told us they couldn't believed Harry had got out.

"He was dragged out of a tiny gap on the passenger's side.

"Harry is such a quiet little boy.

"He's out of hospital now, he's bruised and got cuts on his head."

Neil Harrison, the nine-year-old's dad, said his son is now petrified of going in cars.

The 33-year-old told how his son has been "closing his eyes when he goes round corners."

The driver of the Golf, 34, suffered only minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of careless driving.
