He had been riding his bike on the road, before falling off and being hit by the side of the truck, a spokesperson for the force said. Since the crash, the boy - whose age has not been revealed - has been receiving treatment for his fractured skull in hospital.

The truck driver was 'unaware' that the boy had been injured, police said. The collision is not being investigated for any prosecution.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We received the call to Hindley Road at around 12.30pm on Wednesday, August 3. A boy fell off his bike into the side of a passing truck.
