Boy left in critical condition after being hit by car

A young boy has been left in critical condition after being hit by a car. Police and paramedics were called to a collision involving one vehicle and a child in Dobbins Road in Barry at 2.50pm on Friday and the youngster was soon rushed to hospital for treatment.

South Wales Police confirmed the child remains in hospital in a critical condition on Saturday and officers are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision. An initial statement from South Wales Police issued on Friday, July 7, said: "At 2.50pm this afternoon South Wales Police received a report of a road traffic collision on Dobbins Road, Barry, which involved a car and a young boy.

"The boy has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales. The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation."

A later update on social media added: "We are at the scene of a serious collision on Dobbins Road, Barry. The road is currently closed in both directions from Langlands Road to the junction for the Food Warehouse. It is expected to remain closed for some time.

"Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible. Delays are expected in the area."

The road has since re-opened but the investigation is ongoing.
