A little boy who died after being hit by a truck has been named locally as Devin Shepherd.
Devin, seven, was hit by the vehicle at around 4:30pm on Sunday on St. Joseph's Way in Ballymun in north Dublin.
The youngster was immediately taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital but died a short time later, Dublin Live reports.
Councillors for Ballymun and Finglas have said that although Ballymun has been rocked by the tragedy, it's important for the community to come together.
Green Party representative Caroline Conroy told Dublin Live: "The whole of Ballymun is shocked and devastated by the news. My thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
The Social Democrats' Mary Callaghan added: "It's a very sad time for Ballymun. It's an unimaginable and tragic thing to happen. It's every parents' worst nightmare.
Keith Connolly of Fianna Fail said that the community as a whole were "devastated" and that an "investigation is underway" to find out what happened.
A heartbroken local told The Irish Daily Mirror: "Devin was my best mate's little brother and he was like a little brother to me, still can’t believe it."
The driver of the truck, 30, was taken to The Mater Hospital but his injuries have been described as not life threatening.
Gardai have confirmed that they are treating the incident as a "workplace accident" and the Health and Safety Authority has been notified.
