Boy hit by flying debris as helicopter lands near beach sending tents and tables flying

Holidaymakers enjoying a peaceful day out on a beach were forced to run for their lives after a helicopter landed nearby.

Airflow from the chopper sent parasols and tents flying everywhere, one of which hit a small boy who was hiding in terror.

A mum and her son were also forced to flee when the helicopter landed on the quiet coast at the Gribovka Camping site in Odessa Oblast, Ukraine.

The force of the landing caused the safety fasteners of tents to rip from the ground as well as sending tables, chairs and beach towels shooting across the sand.

The shocking moment the UR-ICH chopper flew in from the sea was caught on camera by Yuliya Tsup, as she sat on the beach with her teenage son.

An umbrella was prised from the sand by the airflow and came flying towards the two of them before smashing into a neighbouring tent just yards away.

Yuliya, who lives in Kyiv, shared the footage of the helicopter’s dangerous landing on Facebook and said she approached the pilot afterwards for an apology but didn’t get one.

"Thank God no one was stabbed by anything,” she told online news outlet Focus.

"When I regained my calm, I ran up the mountain to the damn pilot, but I heard no apology from him for flattening people or compensation for the damage he caused.

"As far as he's concerned, we were no more important than ants."

Yuliya explained how the force caused the safety fasteners of the tents to rip from the ground before hitting a small boy who was taking refuge inside.

She also told how several tourists were injured in the incident and immediately packed up and left with their children in fear, while other shaken beachgoers tried to repair their damaged belongings.

After the incident, the helicopter avoided the coast and flew in from the field instead.

"The damage has been done now because every time I hear the helicopter, I don't know what to expect," Yuliya added.

It is not yet clear how many people were injured during the incident or whether the authorities were involved.
