Coronavirus: Boy George thanks doctor who allowed him to speak to sick mum in hospital

Boy George has offered heartfelt thanks to the "amazing doctor" who arranged for him and his mum to talk over the phone as she is kept in hospital.

The singer announced yesterday that his mum was "stable" after being admitted for "a problem with her heart or lungs", asking followers to pray for her recovery.

Responding to a concerned fan asking how Dinah was doing, Boy George - real name George Alan O'Dowd - told that he'd been able to speak to her after thinking he wouldn't be allowed.

He is restricted from entering the hospital amid the coronavirus outbreak.

"We spoke briefly yesterday," George told the fan, "Because an amazing doctor managed to get mum her phone.

"We don't know anything, but I'm super-grateful for the amazing messages. x."

Earlier today he reached out to nurses at Woolwich's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, penning: "I never post personal stuff but if a gorgeous nurse makes mum a lovely cup of tea and makes her feel safe then I'm more than grateful.

"Thanks for all the supportive messages."

Yesterday, a worried George announced: "My beautiful mum is in the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Woolwich. A problem with her heart or lungs.

"She's stable but they have said they won't resuscitate her if things go wrong? Apparently, it won't work? How can they know. Please pray! @LG_NHS."

Martin Kemp was among pals to offer support, sending three kisses in the comments section.

Meanwhile GMB's Piers Morgan wrote: "Oh no, I'm so sorry George. Will say a prayer for her."

Dinah raised George as a single mum after his dad walked out.

He previously told Piers that he had found his mum on the floor after an overdose.

"She took pills," he recalled on Piers Morgan's Life Stories, "I remember sort of keeping her awake and not really understanding what had happened."
