Boy George backs fundraiser taking on Edinburgh Kiltwalk

Boy George has lent his support to a fundraiser who is taking on the Edinburgh Kiltwalk.

Amanda Reid is delighted to have her idol's backing as she takes on all four Scottish Kiltwalks this summer for CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland).

Amanda’s fundraising team – named the ‘Kilture Club’, after her fandom for the 80s band – recently attracted the attention of Boy George, who has previously pledged personal memorabilia to the charity’s Rocking Horse Ball.

With the Glasgow and Aberdeen events under her belt, Amanda has her sights set on Edinburgh in September and has now been joined by Boy George in calling on the public to sign up and join team CHAS, or show support by making a small donation.

Boy George said: "I’m tremendously proud to have been able to lend support to CHAS in different ways over the years, thanks to Amanda Reid, who introduced me to the charity.

"I’ve learned through these encounters that they do such unique and important work for kids and families all over Scotland. I also know that Amanda, in her role as chaplain at Robin House, must be a great source of comfort.

"When I heard she was taking on all four Kiltwalks – and that she’s called her fundraising team ‘Kilture Club’ – I simply wanted to wish her well and implore people to either donate, or follow in her footsteps and sign up to the Edinburgh or Dundee Kiltwalks."

Amanda, who became chaplain at CHAS's Robin House hospice after five years as a volunteer there, said she was passionate about the charity.

She said: "My role is about having time to listen, to offer support and look after the emotional, spiritual and religious needs of the children, young people, families, staff and volunteers of all faiths and none.

"I am proud to be a part of CHAS and proud to walk as a chaplain of CHAS. It’s only one day out of your life and the difference that could make to a family is huge.

"So why not sign up and take on a Kiltwalk too and make the biggest impact, helping to create a lifetime of memories for hundreds of families."
