Boy found dead in bedroom will 'fly high with the angels'

A schoolboy found dead in his bedroom will "fly high with the angels" those devastated by his death have said.

Hundreds of tributes flooded in for Dixon Strachan following an inquest into his death at Preston Coroner's Court on Tuesday, November 30.

The 15-year-old was found dead in his bedroom at his family home in Calder Vale, Lancashire, when his brother came into his room after he didn't go downstairs for tea.

He was rushed to Alder Hey Children's Hospital but died on February 10 in 2019, LancsLive reports.

An inquest was held in June 2019 with the coroner unable to return a conclusion of suicide after hearing police found no evidence he was considering taking his own life on his mobile phone.

However, just two months after the inquest Dixon's brother found messages on Instagram which "clearly demonstrates" he was suicidal.

This led to a new hearing at Preston Coroner's Court on Tuesday where the Instagram evidence was heard by Coroner Richard Taylor.

People across Merseyside and Lancashire took to social media to pay tribute to the teenager following the hearing on Tuesday and shared their condolences with Dixon's family and friends.

In a message on the ECHO's Facebook page, Angela Ellison said: "So sad RIP sweetheart. Fly high with the angels Dixon."

Carol Oloughlin said: "Fly with the angels sweetheart x."

Beryl Fenwick said: "So very sad. God bless little man. Thoughts and prayers to the family."

Stephen Thomas said: "RIP Dixon. Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Unbelievable!"

Pete Jaundrill said: "RIP poor kid. My heart goes out to his family and friends x."

Sue Williams said: "That's so very tragic, awful for family, thoughts [are] with them."

An inquest at Preston Coroner's Court on Tuesday heard the medical cause of Dixon's death was multiple organ failure, hypoxic brain injury and suspension by ligature.

On the day the Year 11 pupil was found he had been playing with his brother Archie, "throwing cushions at each other" at their home in Burnside Avenue, and his mum said there was "nothing unusual at all" about Dixon's demeanour.

Returning a conclusion of suicide coroner Richard Taylor said: "After hearing the evidence at the first inquest I didn't think we could have come to a different conclusion but the evidence we have now, obtained nearly two months after the inquest, clearly demonstrates suicidal thoughts in the messages on Instagram."

After the inquest Miss Wall told LancsLive she had been frustrated at the police's inability to find the Instagram messages and urged other young people struggling with mental health issues to contact Papyrus, a charity for the prevention of young suicide (under 35) in the UK by calling 0800 068 4141.
