Boy finds 'little treasure' sticking out of the ground

A 13-year-old boy was excited to discover a lost Liverpool treasure more than 40 miles away from the city.

Theo McChesney was out walking with his family at Talacre Abbey in Flintshire, Wales, when he made the discovery.

Mum Rachael, 48, said Theo saw a glimpse of the old relic sticking out of the soil and managed to pull it out.

The item turned out to be an embossed green bottle which is thought to be around 100 years old.

But it wasn't until the family took it home and did some research that they managed to trace it back to one of the oldest pubs in Liverpool.

Rachael told the ECHO: "Me and my husband like walking as a hobby with the children. To keep them entertained when they were younger we'd always hunt for things.

"We've found old milk bottles, jam jars, chutney jars, water bottles - we've got a cupboard full of them. They're like little treasures we can't get rid of them.

"This one we'd never seen before, it's from Liverpool. We looked it up on the internet and found out it's from the oldest pub in Liverpool; Ye Hole in Ye Wall. The address was on the bottle."

Theo found the bottle during a walk with his family in October and they were keen to return it to its original owners.

After sending the pub a message on Facebook, they arranged to drop it off today, December 23, after going to see a pantomime in the city.

Rachael said: "My other children were born in Wales but my son had to be born in Liverpool Women's Hospital, so when he found out it was from where he was actually born he was really excited. For him it's a bit of an adventure."
