Boy, eight, rushed to hospital after being hit by car in Whitechurch, Co Cork

An 8-year-old boy was brought to hospital after being hit by a car on Friday evening.

The child was struck by the car in Whitechurch, north of Cork city shortly after 7pm.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and the boy was brought to Cork University Hospital, Cork Beo reports.

His injuries are non-life threatening and are not believed to be too serious.

The driver of the car, a woman aged in her 30s, remained at the scene and was uninjured.

Gardai confirmed investigations into the incident are ongoing.

A spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Gurranabraher are investigating a RTC that occurred at Whitechurch on Friday, 31st May, 2019 at 7.20pm.

"An 8-year-old boy was struck by a car and was removed to CUH with non life-threatening injuries."
