Boy, 10, dies after falling down hole on Drumchapel building site

A 10-year-old boy has died after falling down a hole on a building site in Drumchapel.

The tragedy unfolded at 9.55pm on Thursday night after police were called to Glenkirk Drive near Kinfauns Drive amid 'concerns for a child '.

The boy has been named locally as Shea Ryan.

Emergency services cordoned the road off as they worked to rescue the boy.

Devastated neighbours watched on as he was pulled from the hole.

He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, but sadly passed away a short time later.

Tributes are now pouring in for the schoolboy after the tragic incident.

One family member said: "Cant believe it absolutely devastated, never in my life did I think that my beautiful, kind caring wee cousin would be sent to heaven at this time of year and age.

"I'll love you forever wee guy, forever 10.

 "ONLY ONE SHEA RYAN, you were the wee brother I never had."

Someone else said: "Absolutely heartbreaking news, RIP Shea.

"You will be sadly missed far too young to be gone."

Another person said: "Heartbreaking about the wee boy in Dumchapel. Thoughts are with his family the wee soul, rip."

Others said: "I was hoping this wasn’t true, absolutely heartbreaking for all the family."

Someone else said: "So young tragic. Thinking of his poor mum and dad. Hearts will be broken."

Work has been ongoing in the area near Kinfauns Drive as part of a £5million drainage project to help combat flooding with engineers also planning to realign Gardscadden Burn.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police enquiries are continuing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident, however the death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Health and Safety Executive have been informed."
