Boy fighting for life after rope course accident on school camp

The student was on a ropes course at Adventure Alternatives Education Centre in Woodford.

A teenage boy is in a critical condition after an accident on a high ropes course on the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

It is believed the Year 9 student from Brisbane's Marist College became entangled and suffered neck and facial injuries while on a school camp at Woodford.

Paramedics were called to the Adventure Alternatives Education Centre about 10:30am and the boy was flown to the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane.

In an email to parents, Marist College headmaster Peter McLoughlin said the boy's parents were with him at the hospital.

"The boys have been informed of the accident on site and it is our intention to provide a debrief and counselling support at school [Thursday] morning," he wrote.

"Prayer and support spaces will be made available for your sons should they need."

The remainder of the camp has been cancelled, and the boys were brought home on buses Wednesday night.

A parent whose child was at the camp said he received a text message telling him to pick up his son and that "there's been an accident".

Workplace health and safety staff have attended the scene of the incident and an investigation is underway.

Marist College Ashgrove will send a representative to the Sunshine Coast in the morning in a bid to determine how the student hurt himself.

The operators of the Adventure Alternatives were not commenting.
