Boy critical in alleged drink-drive crash

A driver critically injured an eight-year-old boy and then blew nearly four times the legal alcohol limit on the NSW Central Coast, police allege.

Kristie Fiona Anne Merrett, 51, collided with a sedan while driving an SUV in Killarney Vale early on Wednesday afternoon.

The boy travelling in the sedan suffered serious injuries and was flown to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

The sedan driver, a woman aged 42, suffered minor injuries.

NSW Police officers breath-tested Merrett. After a positive roadside test, she allegedly blew 0.197 in a police station breath analysis.

She now faces seven charges including aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, high-range drink driving and possession of a prohibited drug.

Her licence was also suspended.

Facing Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, Merrett was granted bail under strict conditions not to drive or to drink alcohol or take drugs.

She was also ordered to pay a $1000 bond.

The Bellingen woman will next come before the court on January 27.
