Boy collapses during under-12s football training from suspected cardiac arrest

A young boy collapsed and suffered a suspected cardiac arrest while playing in an under-12s football game, a club manager said.

The child, training with Penlan Football Club, had to be given CPR on the football pitch in Townhill, Wales, during the incident on Tuesday night.

Emergency services were called to The Phoenix Centre following reports he had collapsed, Wales Online reports.

Multiple ambulances arrived at the scene as paramedics began treating him.

The BBC was told a defibrillator was used to revive him.

The Penlan AFC 1st team manager called Crabby tweeted last night: "Awful news this evening for us @PenlanClubAFC one of our under 12 players collapsed in training and had a cardiac arrest, the young lad was given CPR by parents who brought his breath back and then was transferred to Cardiff Heath, thoughts are with all the family."

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said last night: "We are in attendance at an incident at the Phoenix Centre and were called at 6.43pm on Tuesday, January 28."

One eyewitness reported seeing three ambulances at the scene just before 7pm.

Penlan Juniors AFC later posted a statement on their Facebook page, which reads: "Unfortunately we have to report that a young lad from our U12's has collapsed during a training session this evening.

"Paramedics were called and he is now receiving treatment at a hospital in Cardiff.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we're praying he makes a full recovery.

"Also to the coaches, parents, and players who were incredible throughout".

An update added: "Doctors have carried out some positive test throughout the night (sic).

"Hopefully that’s a good sign of things to come in the next few hours. We’re all still praying that the young man pulls through and makes a full recovery."
