Boy celebrates birthday with strangers on motorway after getting stuck in traffic

This is the heartwarming moment a group of strangers helped a boy celebrate his birthday on a motorway after a huge tailback caused him to miss his party.

Theo Yates was on his way to play bowling in Rochester yesterday and was just four minutes away from Hollywood Bowl when traffic ground to a halt on the M2.

Having been stuck on the motorway for three hours in Kent, mum Danielle asked for help from some fellow stranded motorists and passengers - including a couple out for their wedding anniversary - and gave Theo an impromtu birthday party.

In a video posted on social media, Danielle can be seen holding Theo's football cake as she walks towards him with bystanders singing Happy Birthday to the nine-year-old.

It also shows the M2 at a standstill with cars lining up the closed motorway.

Danielle, 29, wrote on the caption: "It was my son's 9th Birthday yesterday, we were on our way to bowling when they closed the M2.

"We didn't get to go as we were stuck on it for three hours, but we did celebrate his Birthday.

"I just want to say thank you to some of the people that came out of their cars to sing Happy Birthday to him, he said he will never forget it."

Liverpool fan, Theo, had a massive grin on his face as his mother held the cake with nine candles on it.

As the Birthday song finishes Theo blows out his candles and is met with a cheer from all the bystanders.

Danielle, who works as a customer service assistant, said Theo shared the cake with the people that sung to him.

She was also surprised that so many people had come to wish her son a Happy Birthday.

She said: "We met a couple in front of us that were meant to be celebrating their anniversary and we asked them if they would sing Happy Birthday with us.

"I decided to get the cake ready as both my children were getting a little bored so when we brought the cake out some other people got out of their cars and started singing Happy Birthday.

"I didn't expect so many people to wish him a belated Happy Birthday, I was only thanking the people who made his Birthday. It's amazing how many people do come together."
