Boy burnt and West Lakes Shore house destroyed in suspicious brush fence fire

Damage to the brush fence from the fire that spread to the rest of the West Lakes Shore home. (ABC News)

Police say a 15-year-old boy is being treated for minor burns after a fence fire that spread to the roof of a home in Adelaide, destroying it.

Police suspect the fire was deliberately lit in the brush fence, which is made from tightly packed sticks.

Firefighters were called to the home on Lambert Avenue at West Lakes Shore about 1:30am after multiple calls were made to triple-0.

A family of five heard the crackle of fire on their brush fence and managed to escape.

The fire spread from the fence to the roof space and completely destroyed the home.

The boy was taken to the Women's and Children's Hospital for treatment.

It took the Metropolitan Fire Service crews around an hour to extinguish, with the damage bill estimated to be more than $500,000.

Neighbours were evacuated as a precaution but no other properties were damaged.

Detectives are at the scene.
