A SINGER in a boy band was jailed yesterday for having sex with a schoolgirl fan.
Philip Sansom, 20, twice had sex with the girl, 14, after she saw his band Southern Edge.
Prosecutor Stephen Donoghue said the girl became a keen fan with a “crush” on him after seeing his band play at a holiday camp.
He said, “The pair corresponded by email. He came to visit her and met her family.
“They went to a pub and he returned to her house and twice had sex with her.”
The court heard she lied about her age – saying she was 15 years old.
Sansom, of Poole, Dorset, admitted two charges of having sexual activity with a girl under 16.
He was sentenced to 21 months custody in a young offenders institute.
Update: Sansom subsequently submitted an appeal and his sentence was reduced at the Court of Appeal to 12 months' detention, a disqualification from working with children, and a requirement to comply with notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 for 10 years.
