Boy and a man jump into the Manchester Ship canal after police chase

Police found a teenager and a man in the Manchester Ship Canal during a search of the area after a van failed to stop.

Cheshire police attempted to stop a white panel van on Old Chester Road at around 8.20pm last night ( Thursday).

The driver failed to stop and then abandoned the van on Old Chester Road, which runs alongside the Manchester Ship Canal.

Police then searched the area, when they found a man and a teenager boy in the Manchester Ship Canal.

The man and the boy were arrested at the scene and charged with a number of offences.

A force spokesman said to the ECHO : “At around 8.20pm on Thursday, August 2, officers attempted to stop a white panel van on Chester Road.

“The driver failed to stop and made off from the scene before abandoning the vehicle on Old Chester Road.

“Officers conducted a search of the area and subsequently arrested a men and a teenage boy, both of whom were found in the Manchester Ship Canal.

“The man, from Bradford, and the 15-year-old boy, from Salford, were both arrested on suspicion of a number of offences – Including dangerous driving, failing to stop for officers, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of an offensive weapon.”
