Boy, 9, told his dad 'mumma won't wake up' after finding her dead in bed

A father has shared the heartbreaking moment his nine-year-old son told him 'mumma won't wake up' after finding her dead in bed.

Little Karim rang his dad Mahmoud Ali Ibrahim after his mum failed to move when he tried to wake her up at their home in Cardiff, Wales.

Mahmoud had called his wife while returning home from work to tell her he was coming back to pick up the children for school, Wales Online reports.

He became worried when 39-year-old Kasia did not respond to her calls, before his son rang him and told him his mum was not moving.

In a panic, Mahmoud told Karim to try and splash water in her face while he called an ambulance and friends who lived nearby.

By the time Mahmoud arrived at their home, his friend told him Kasia had died.

"My son kept on saying I saved Mumma, I put water on her face. He kept thinking for one or two days that he saved her. He didn't understand," said Mahmoud.

When the paramedics arrived, they attempted to revive her but Mahmoud was told it was too late. The reason for Kasia's death on January 9 is still unknown.

Mahmoud, 37, said it took a couple of days for his son and six-year-old daughter, Liyana, to understand what happened.

As Liyana is still so young, she doesn't fully understand what has happened, but Karim has been left completely heartbroken and is experiencing traumatic nightmares, waking up in the middle of the night looking for his mum.

Devastatingly, following his mother's death, Mahmoud claims that Karim has been bullied at school, with children saying: "I have got my mum, you have not."

"My boy, he is really upset. No one can replace a mother."

Mahmoud said that despite the heartbreak, they celebrated both children's birthdays on January 2 and January 19.

"He kept saying 'She promised me she would make me a Minecraft cake' and 'she promised she would give me £20'.

"She was very good at making cakes, no one could make them like she could, she would always make them for birthdays for friends and family," explained Mahmoud.

According to Mahmoud, Liyana, knows what has happened but "doesn't want to face it" and doesn't talk about her mum.

"She is scared to talk about it but I am sure she has questions," he said.

The couple had been married for 13 years after meeting in Mahmoud's native Egypt. Kasia, who was from Poland, and Mahmoud moved to Wales 10 years ago, so have very little family nearby.

"Kasia's family came over from Poland for two weeks but they left on Saturday, I have my brother-in-law here but he has his own family and job, they just have me now.

"I am really trying, I am doing my best for them but it is hard. I am really not well, no one can describe pain like this."

Mahmoud described Kasia, who worked as housekeeping in a Cardiff hotel, as an amazing mum who put everyone before herself.

"She was the first one up and the last to go to sleep. No one will ever be like her. She was too young," he said.

Mahmoud, who works in GE healthcare logistics, decided to donate Kasia's organs to scientific research in the hope it could help someone in the future.

A family friend has set up a fundraiser to help pay for counselling for the children and other needs at this difficult time. To donate, click here .
