Boy, 9, shot in street with pellet gun sparking 'large' police presence

A nine-year-old boy was shot in the stomach with a BB gun, sparking a large police presence in a Wirral town.

The boy was found to be uninjured after Merseyside Police patrols attended Queens Road in Rock Ferry and a second boy, aged 14, who was reported to have a BB gun was spoken to by officers.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said both boys apologised to each other and a plastic pellet gun was handed over voluntarily to officers.

People had posted in a Wirral Facebook group yesterday about a large police presence in the area with one person saying: "Anyone know what was happening in king street rock ferry yesterday...tons of police cars?"

Merseyside Police confirmed they had been called to reports of a boy being shot in nearby Queens Road.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We had a call at 4.40pm yesterday, Tuesday 21 st September, to reports a nine year-old boy had been hit in the stomach with a plastic pellet from a BB gun in the area of Queens Road in Rock Ferry.

"The boy was not injured and suffered only reddening to his stomach.

"Officers attended and spoke to the boy and a second boy, aged 14, who was reported to have been in possession of the BB gun.

"Both parties apologised and the BB gun was voluntarily handed over for disposal."
