Boy, 9, rushed to hospital after being struck by car in horror Hamilton crash

A nine-year-old boy was mowed down by a car in Hamilton.

The child was struck in Strathaven Road in the South Lanarkshire town on Wednesday night.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised at around 6.40pm.

The boy was rushed to University Hospital Wishaw for treatment.

His injuries are unknown but not thought to be life-threatening.

Police confirmed that a 40-year old man has been charged in connection with road traffic offences.

Locals told online of witnesses rushing to the youngsters aid after the incident in the Eddlewood area of the town, near Carrigan's restaurant.

A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: “We received a report of a road crash involving a nine-year-old boy and a car on Strathaven Road, Hamilton, around 6.40pm on Wednesday, October 28.

"The boy was taken to University Hospital Wishaw for treatment.

"The 40-year-old male driver was charged in connection with road traffic offences and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
