Boy, 9, in tears after his dreams are dashed by 'cruel thieves'

A nine-year-old boy was reduced to tears by heartless thieves after his mum's car was reportedly broken into.

Charlie Knox, from Stockbridge Village, has dreamed of becoming a world champion kickboxer and for months has been trying to raise the funds for him to be able to fight.

In a bid to raise the much needed money the schoolboy had dedicated his weekends to packing groceries in supermarkets and so far had managed to raise £175.

However Charlie was left in tears when money he left in his mum's car was reportedly taken by cruel thieves.

Charlie's grandmother, Susan Wilkinson, 58, said slippers she bought for him were also taken and were found cast away down the road.

She said: "He was so upset, honestly. He gives up his Saturdays to do bag packing, but on that day he didn't feel like going, but he went anyway.

"He raised some money and his mum put it in the glove compartment of the car, now she feels like it's all her fault.

"But I said it's the people who stole it, it's their fault. He's just devastated."

Susan said her daughter, Justine Rye, claims her car was broken into on Sunday, February 23.

The single mother-of-three, 38, discovered her car had been broken into after, and saw thieves had taken all of Charlie's fundraising money.

The determined nine-year-old is raising funds so he is able to compete abroad and travel to competitions up and down the country.

Susan said he has his heart set on being a world champion and has dreams of being an Olympian, training before and after school.

His club, Sensai Academy, trains and supports him but is not able to pay for some of the competitions he's got into, such as ones in Jamaica.

Susan said: "He's so disciplined, even at nine. I go to the shops with him and offer to buy him a chocolate bar and he says 'no thanks Nan, I'm training'.

"He just wants to get better."

The family have set up a gofundmepage to try and replace the money, as well as raise cash for Charlie's kickboxing venture.
