Boy, 9, finds huge knife while out playing hide and seek

A nine-year-old boy handed in this huge knife to police after finding it while playing-hide and-seek. The child flagged down passing police community support officers in south Manchester over the weekend and passed on the blade.

It was then seized and destroyed. Police from GMP Longsight and Moss Side praised the lad and thanked him for his initiative.

They tweeted: "Over the weekend local PCSO's were flagged down by a 9 year old boy who explained he had found a knife whilst playing hide-and-seek. The knife was seized and destroyed. Excellent result!"

The find comes comes as Greater Manchester hold a 'knife crime awareness week' as part of Operation Sceptre - a national drive to reduce knife crime. Neighbourhood officers will be carrying out a number of events across Moss Side and Longsight in a bid to steer youngsters away from knife crime.
