Boy, 8, tragically mauled to death by Rottweiler dogs in Dublin named locally

A defenceless little boy who was tragically mauled to death by a pair of Rottweiler dogs has been named locally as Glen Murphy.

Eight-year-old Glen sadly died in Children's Health Ireland in Crumlin after fighting for his life for hours following the vicious attack on Sunday afternoon.

The young schoolboy was attacked by the Rottweilers at a house near Tallaght at around 4pm on Mother's Day, Dublin Live reports.

The alarm was raised and emergency services rushed the child to Tallaght Hospital before he was transferred to Crumlin where he died on Monday morning.

Both dogs were handed over to the Dublin City dog warden and put down immediately after the horror attack.

A Garda investigation has been launched into the shocking death but a source indicated it is being treated as a tragic domestic incident.

Rottweilers are among 11 dog breeds for which ownership restrictions apply in Ireland.

Under the Control of Dogs (Restriction of Certain Dogs) Regulations, they must not be allowed in a public place unless they are on a strong leash or chain no longer than one metre and they must be muzzled.

They are also allowed to be taken outside only by someone over the age of 16 who is capable of controlling the dog.
