Boy, 8, reels in giant tiger shark weighing 49 stone on fishing trip

An eight-year-old boy may have broken a world record with his monster shark haul off the coast line of Australia.

Jayden Millauro reeled in a tiger shark eight times his own body weight on a fishing trip off the coast of New South Wales over the weekend.

The youngest member of the Port Hacking Game Fishing Club hooked the 314kg shark off the coast of Browns Mountain, 105 miles south of Sydney.

That puts his catch at 2kg above the current world record for a tiger shark in a junior fisher category.

Jayden said he was "nervous" as the huge shark was dragged onto the boat by the crew, worrying he would lose it.

"I was really excited when they got it."

In an interview with Nine News he steeled himself for the heavy catch by bracing his body against the boat as he reeled the shark in.

He said: "I was trying to hold myself, by pushing off the wall in the boat."

According to the broadcaster, the world record tiger shark catch was a 312kg specimen set by Ian Hissey in April 1997.

But little Jayden may have smashed the International Game Fish Association's 'small fry' record after nearly two decades.
