Boy, 8, cried 'he's killed my mummy' after controlling partner stabbed her to death

Neighbours heard an eight-year-old boy crying "he's killed my mummy" after her boyfriend stabbed her to death at their home, an inquest heard.

Jayde Hall was discovered covered in blood in the utility room of the home in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, she shared with her son and partner Carl Antonio Scott.

The couple had been together for a year but Scott had quickly become "controlling" and jealous", with tensions coming to a head when he became unemployed just as Jayde started a new job.

On the night of her death, the mum, 26, had been out with a work colleague at a pub in Newcastle-Under-Lyme when Scott accused her of being unfaithful, reports StokeonTrentLive.

Within half an hour of her returning home on May 24, 2019, he stabbed her multiple times in the face and neck.

Scott then called the police to confess what he had done at just before 10pm.

He was charged with murder and remanded in custody at HMP Dovegate but was found hanged in his cell on May 27, 2019.

The inquest into Jayde’s death held at Stoke Civic Centre on Tuesday concluded she had been unlawfully killed.

Detective Inspector Cheryl Hannan, from Staffordshire Police, said officers found Jayde's son in the living room of their home and Scott was later found in the local area and arrested at 3am.

She added that Scott had also confessed to the killing to Jayde's mum Tricia Green and visited a friend prior to being found by police, admitting he was "jealous".

The DI continued: "Neighbours heard arguing between them [Jayde and Scott]. They heard a little boy shouting 'he killed my mummy'."

Jayde’s mum Tricia told the inquest Scott appeared "calm" when he called her as she left work to say he had murdered her daughter.

She said she had a missed call from Jayde's phone at 9.30pm and she attempted to call her back at 10.02pm but there was no answer.

While driving in her car minutes later she missed another call from her daughter's phone and on calling her back Carl answered and said: "Jayde had been seeing someone from work and I just killed her."

Tricia said she was "in shock" and drove to the scene and found multiple police cars parked.

The devastated mum paid tribute to her daughter saying: “She was bubbly but also fiery with her red hair. She was a loving mum and daughter.”

Dad Phillip Hall, who is separated from Tricia, told the court Jayde had called him earlier in the evening to ask if she and her son could stay with him.

"She said Carl was leaving her and she told him to go...She asked if they could stay, she didn’t feel safe on her own. She seemed timid," he said.

Phillip's eldest son, Mark, called him at just before 10.50pm that night to inform him Jayde was dead.

"I didn’t want to believe it," he said.

The inquest heard Jayde started her new job as an insurance sales operative in January 2019 and instantly made new friends.

Colleague Anil Patel, who had been at the pub with Jayde the night she died, said she was "friendly" and that she'd told him her partner was "jealous and a waste of space".

"We knew we had feelings for each other," he said, adding he felt "empty and upset" when he learned she had died.

Jayde's cause of death was given as multiple stab wounds.

Coroner Emma Serrano concluded: "On the balance of probabilities I am satisfied that Jade was unlawfully killed."

She described "some controlling behaviour" in the couple's relationship, adding: "He was jealous of her relationship with her colleagues at work. She went to a new job and he lost his job."

The coroner went on to say Jayde "wanted him to leave" but Scott would sleep on the sofa so she arranged for her and her son to move in with her dad.

She added the mum was found dead in the utility room with multiple stab wounds.
