Boy, 7, shot while sleeping in apartment tragically dies from horror injuries

A seven-year-old boy who was shot while sleeping in an apartment this week has died, police have tragically confirmed.

Heartbroken cops confirmed the terrible news that Kyrie Barnes has sadly succumbed to his terrible injuries and passed away.

The horror shooting occurred at around 9.30 on Sunday when a bullet penetrated Kyrie's room through a second-storey window at an apartment complex in Dallas, Texas.

The young boy was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but died of his injuries four days later after losing a brave battle for his life.

Kyrie's family have released his photograph in the hope it will inspire anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and help police catch the callous killers.

Neighbours who heard the shots at apartment complext on Rothington Road, near Interstate 30 and Buckner Boulevard, recalled their terrifying experience.

One neighbour shared her account with FOX 4 earlier in the week.

They said: "Right after we heard the fireworks, we heard big shots. Probably five or six shots. And we started ducking with our kids to make sure all our kids were okay."

A maintenance worker in the complex also recounted witnessing a pickup truck passing by after gunshots were fired.

He said:, "When I heard the gunshots, it was about eight on the other side of the property. In that time, a white truck passed by.

"But at the same time of the gunshots, there were some fireworks. But I don’t know. The people here responded, then we heard three other gunshots."

Dallas Police detectives have determined that the shots originated from outside the apartment. Fortunately, no-one else was injured.

The investigation into the shooting of the 7-year-old is ongoing. Police have not disclosed whether the apartment was specifically targeted of if it was a random act of violence.

The authorities have yet to release any details about potential suspects.

Police are making a plea to the public, urging anyone who may possess relevant information to come forward and assist in shedding light on this case.

Kyrie, who died on Thursday, was initially incorrectly reported to be eight-years-old.
