Boy, 7, GoPros scary near-miss with shark after being knocked off his surfboard

A young boy miraculously escaped unscathed after being knocked off his surfboard by a shark.

Heartstopping video shows seven-year-old Chandler Moore surfing at New Smyrna Beach in Florida before clashing with a small shark.

He flips into the water as the shark breaches the water and hits his surfboard.

A slow-motion playback reveals the little apex predator thrashing around for a few seconds after the close encounter.

Chandler manges to get out of the water and runs towards his dad, Shaun.

Shaun, 40, reviewed the footage and believed his son was knocked down by what appeared to be a small blacktip shark.

Chandler, who started surfing at the age of 4, told CNN : "I was just surfing and then I saw two fish.

"I thought the thing that hit me was a fish.

"When we looked back I saw it was actually a shark.

"I was like, 'Oh my gosh'."

Luckily he was not injured during the incident and showed the video to his classmates afterwards.

Dad Shaun said the family was out to the beach on the Thanksgiving weekend.

He said: "It was almost 80 degrees (26C), sunny and the waves were good.

"The beach was crowded and there were a ton of surfers out."

Blacktip sharks are very common in New Smyrna Beach, so common that experts call the area the shark attack capitol of the world.

The International Shark Attack File estimates that anyone who has been swimming there has been within 10 feet of a shark.
