A seven-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after sustaining critical injuries when he was run over by a van while out riding his scooter.
The child was on his push scooter when a van mowed him down, along with a pedestrian in his 30s, on Sunday morning.
Emergency services rushed to where the pair were lying on the A4130 near Oxford, between Didcot and Wallingford on High Road, Brightwell-Cum-Sotwell, at the junction with Slade End, around 11.30am.
Both were transported to hospital, where they are receiving urgent treatment.
The van driver and four passengers in the van escaped injury.
Road closures are in place while an investigation is carried out, and police attempt to determine the circumstances around the crash.
Senior Investigating Officer, Inspector Simon Hills of the Roads Policing Unit based in Bicester, said police are in early stages of an investigation.
"We would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened earlier today, or if you saw the van, the pedestrian or boy on a push scooter before the collision took place,” Inspector Hills said.
"If you have a dash-cam and were in the area before the incident happened or if it has captured the incident, please get in touch.
Inspector Hills also urged anyone with relevant information or who saw the incident to get in touch on 101, quoting the reference 43210387874.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those involved,” he added.
