Police divers located the body of Braxton Plant about 3.15pm on Thursday in a dam on the property at Wallangra, in the state's northwest.

The tragic discovery followed an extensive search, which began after emergency services were contacted about 7pm Wednesday.

The search continued throughout the night and involved a police helicopter.

The boy, who had Down Syndrome and could not speak, was last seen about 4pm at his home.

Police thanked the public for their assistance.
