A five-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being hit by a car in Birkdale .
The youngster suffered cuts and bruises as well as hurting his head, police said.
Emergency services were called to the junction of Eastbourne Road and Upper Aughton Road at around 9am on Wednesday after reports an Isuzu Trooper had hit the boy.
According to Merseyside Police, the car was said to be travelling at around 20mph at the time of the collision.
North West Ambulance Service said a rapid response vehicle and road ambulance had attended the scene and that an air ambulance was initially called but then told it was not needed.
The boy was taken to hospital for treatment for leg injuries, a spokesman added.
