Boy, 5, left devastated after thieves steal precious gift he never got chance to use

A young boy has been left devastated after cruel thieves raided his family's stables and stole a precious gift that he never got the chance to use.

Five-year-old Jonny Jordan was given a custom-made horse cart and had been keeping it wrapped safely in bubble wrap, waiting for the perfect first outing.

The young equestrian was preparing ride his beloved shetland pony Del Boy on the cart when ruthless thieves broke into the family stables in Thorpe village, East Ardley, Leeds.

The family say the burglars broke into their yard where the cart was being stored and swiped it in the middle of the night on May 18.

Jonny's parents are now offering a £500 reward to anyone who can safely return the precious gift to them, Leeds Live reports.

His father, Dan, said the news has left his son shattered as he is "inseparable" from his pet and wanted to take Del Boy out for a ride.

The cart was a bespoke piece and will be "easily recognisable," Jonny's dad said (Leeds Live WS)

Dan said: “The cart was custom made for Jonny by Cumbria Carriages in Carlisle and he never had chance to use it before.

“This is one-of-a-kind and it will be recognised very easily.

“We bought for my son's little shetland pony Del Boy who he adores.

“We are offering £500 reward and urge it to be left somewhere it can be found no questions asked we just want it back for Jonny.

“Please return the cart or get in touch with its location.

"[Jonny’s] shetland Del Boy is his first horse [and] they are inseparable.

“He is asking questions and knows something is wrong he wants to take Del Boy out and enjoy his new cart. He's devastated."

The family said that damage had also been caused to the yard by the thieves.

It is understood that West Yorkshire Police have also been informed.
