Boy, 5, killed in tragic farm accident in Co Roscommon named locally

A boy of five who died after an accident on a farm was named locally yesterday as Conor Campbell.

He was killed instantly when he suddenly fell from a trailer on Saturday and his parents Joseph and Emma were last night trying to come to terms with their “immense loss”.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Tulsk, Co Roscommon, at 5.40pm but the youngster – who has two younger brothers – was pronounced dead minutes later.

A postmortem was due to take place yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, separate Garda and Health and Safety Authority probes will also be carried out into the incident.

The Campbells are a well-known family from Drumshanbo in Co Leitrim who are prominent in the meat distribution and farming sectors in the west.

Local Fianna Fail Senator Eugene Murphy, who lives less than 10km away from where the tragic accident took place, said: “The community all around Tulsk are very saddened by this event.

“I would know the family for many years and they are widely known through their farming and business interest.

“There’s a great sense of sadness and sorrow and everybody is devastated for the family, even those who wouldn’t have known them [personally].

“I just want to send my sympathies and we’ll all have to pray for this family at the moment and support them through this devastating period.”
