Boy, 5, girl, 9, and woman all killed in horror crash between motor home and HGV

A woman and two young children have tragically died in an horrific crash between an HGV and a motor home.

The accident happened on the A64 in Ryedale, North Yorkshire, on Tuesday at around 8pm.

The three passengers in the caravan, a 44-year-old woman, a nine-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy, were all sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The fourth passenger, a six-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

The driver of the motorhome, a 48-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious but not believed to be life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the HGV was uninjured.

The tragedy resulted in the closure of the A64 for more than 10 hours between Barton-le-Willows and Flaxton.

It reopened at 6.45am on Wednesday.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any dashcam footage of the incident or was travelling in the area at the time, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.

A spokesman said: "The tragic incident happened at around 8pm near Jinnah Restaurant and involved a white HGV and a grey Motor home.

"Three of the passengers in the motor home, a 44 year old woman, a nine year old girl and a five year old boy, were all sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The fourth passenger, a six year old boy, was taken to hospital with a serious head injury.

"The driver of the Motor home, a 48-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious but not believed to be life threatening, injuries.

Police say the the driver of the HGV lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed between Barton le Willows and Flaxton for several hours while emergency services worked at the scene. It re-opened at 6.45am.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any Dashcam footage of the incident or was travelling in the area at the time, is asked to contact police.
