Boy, 5, chokes to death at Hull primary school during lunch break

A five-year-old boy has choked to death during his lunch break at a school in Hull.

The unnamed child was taken ill at Anlaby Primary School on Friday lunch time.

Paramedics were called to the school but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Headteacher Gareth May said the entire was “deeply saddened by this tragic event” and added that staff and pupils would receive support in the coming days.

A spokesman for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service told the BBC:  "We can confirm that we attended an incident in Anlaby and, following the tragic outcome, our thoughts remain with the family at this difficult time."

Humberside Police said they attended the scene but were treating the death as unexplained rather than suspicious at this time.

An inquest is due to be opened into the boy’s death.

Detective Chief Inspector Tony Cockerill said: “It is heart breaking that a child has died and we are supporting the child’s family.”

The force has asked for the boy’s family to be “left to grieve in peace”.
