A four-year-old boy has died several days after falling at his home.
Mason O'Connell was rushed to hospital having suffered serious head injuries on Saturday.
Tragically the four-year-old lost his life yesterday.
A post-mortem of Mason, who lived in Rathbane, Co Limerick, Ireland, will determine how the investigation unfolds, police have said.
A force spokesperson added: “Investigating police maintain an open mind in this investigation."
A fundraiser set up to give Mason a good send off has already raised more than €8,450 (£7243.44).
The organisers of the fundraiser wrote: "As a lot of you may know, Mason has battled between Cork Hospital & Temple Street since Saturday when he received a life threatening injury due to a fall.
"Mason has since unfortunately lost his battle at the young age of 4.
"We are helping to raise money to give him the send off he deserves. Times are so tough for people but nothing compares to what his family are going through."
Mason, who had three other siblings, was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick before being moved to Cork University Hospital and then Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin, Extra reported.
The publication reported that he had fallen from a bunkbed, but this has not been confirmed.
According to a Garda spokesman, Mason "sustained serious life-threatening injuries" in the fall.
Grieving loved ones have sent condolence wishes to the family following Mason's death.
"Lizzie, John Paul and family we are so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy Mason," one couple wrote.
"Sending you love, strength and prayers."
