A four-year-old boy has died dies after the car he was a passenger in collided with a roadside post box.
The tragic crash occurred in Leamington Spa on Friday when a Honda Jazz hit the post box on Kenilworth Road shortly after 6.10 pm.
Warwickshire Police confirmed the youngster died shortly after the crash.
The driver of the car, described as a man in his 40s, suffered minor injuries in the incident according to Warwickshire Police, reports Coventry Live.
However, the four-year-old sustained severe head injuries and was taken to hospital, but sadly later died.
Specially trained officers are now supporting his heartbroken family as they come to terms with their loss.
Residents nearby also shared their concerns about the safety of Kenilworth Road.
One said: "It was a terrible tragedy that saw a child lose their life at such a young age. It must be devastating for the family."
Another, Mrs Mason, said that drivers speeding is an issue throughout Leamington Spa.
"It's a residential area, you know children, animals, people, lots of school children walk around here and cars go charging down because it's a straight road.
"There are clear signs with speed limits on Kenilworth Road, but drivers choose to ignore them which makes the road very dangerous."
"It sounds really awful. People do drive too fast on Kenilworth Road and there should be speed cameras along the entire road to deter those who are driving dangerously," another Leamington local said.
He added: "Even though there are speed limit signs along the road drivers still travel way too fast, I know they have mobile speed cameras there sometimes, but they should really have average speed cameras on that stretch all of the time to prevent accidents like this from happening."
An employee at a local business, Leamington Drinks told CoventryLive: "Kenilworth Road is quite dangerous. People drive up and down there quite fast especially when they are coming into Leamington. There should be more awareness and more signs telling people to slow down. But, I am shocked and saddened to hear that the poor little boy died from the collision."
