Boy, 3, seriously injured in hit-and-run in Co Cork

A three-year-old boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Co Cork this afternoon.

The incident happened on the Skehard Road in the Blackrock area of the city just before 4pm.

Gardai revealed that the car involved in the collision failed to stay at the scene.

The young boy was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Cork where he remains in a serious condition.

A garda spokesman said: "The scene of the incident is preserved and Garda forensic collision investigators have been requested to attend and examine the crash site.

"Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station 021 4522000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111."
