Boy, 3, fighting for life in hospital after being hit by truck at lunchtime

A three-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a truck.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the scene in east Manchester at around 1pm today.

The youngster was taken to hospital by land ambulance and is said to be seriously injured.

Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 1.20pm today police were contacted regarding a collision involving a pedestrian and a Ford tipper truck on North Road in Clayton, Manchester.

"Police and paramedics attended the scene and the pedestrian – a three-year-old child - was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"It is believed he is currently in a life-threatening condition.

“North Road is currently closed in both directions between Folkestone Road and Lingfield Road.

“A scene is in place whilst the investigation is ongoing.”

A spokeswoman for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 12.58pm.

"We have attended with an air ambulance, two ambulances, the advanced paramedic, two operational commanders and a rapid response vehicle.

"A patient has been taken to hospital by land ambulance following a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

"He is in a serious condition."

Ambulance and police vehicles remain at the scene.

A section of the road has been sealed off by police.
