A little boy was rushed to hospital and being knocked down and injured in Speke.
Emergency services were called to Conleach Road, at 4.30pm, on Thursday after reports of a collision involving a child.
The three-year-old victim is believed to have been hit in the road by a Peugeot Expert, close to the leisure centre and playing fields.
Road closures were quickly put in place as paramedics raced the child to hospital for treatment to his injuries.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping police with their investigation but witnesses are being asked to come forward.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Officers are currently in Speke following a collision this afternoon, Thursday, 1 October.
"At 4.30pm, it was reported that a Peugeot Expert had been in collision with a three year-old boy on Conleach Road.
"Emergency services attended and the boy has been taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening at this stage.
"The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene to assist with enquiries."
