Boy, 3, found shivering in plastic bag after being dumped in street by dad

A toddler was placed inside a plastic bag and dumped in the street by his desperate dad - because he couldn't afford to look after him.

Mr Qu was caught on CCTV abandoning a plastic travel bag outside a restaurant with his three-year-old son inside.

An employee at the venue spotted the bag just an hour later, but moved it in front of a next door hotel without checking what was inside.

Five hours later the boy wriggled out and cried for help in the city of Laixi, in eastern China.

He was seen on the footage managing to eventually undo the zip and climb out - but found himself alone in the dark with his 53-year-old dad nowhere to be seen.

His cries were heard by people working in a nearby shop who were shocked to find the boy.

Policeman Shan Zengkai, who arrived on the scene about 10 minutes later, said the boy was left with clothes and a note inside the bag.

The unsigned note identified boy’s date of birth as being November 2016, and the writer said they could no longer afford to raise the child.

The boy was taken to a local hospital for tests and later transferred to Qingdao Children’s Welfare Institute, where he remains.

The authorities said Mr Qu was found and arrested on Wednesday, November 20.

The parent told investigators that he had the boy out of wedlock, and that the child’s mother recently abandoned them after he fell ill.

He said he could no longer afford to care for the family.

Mr Qu remains in custody as investigations into the alleged child abandonment continue.
