Boy, 3, dies in NSW lake accident

Paramedics were unable to save a three-year-old boy pulled from the water at Lake Macquarie. (AAP)

A child has died after being found unresponsive in NSW's Lake Macquarie.

Emergency services were called to Fishing Point Road in Rathmines, at about 6.30pm on Christmas Day, after a three-year-old boy was pulled from the water unconscious.

Bystanders rendered first aid until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived but the child could not be revived and died at the scene.

Police officers from Lake Macquarie attended and have begun investigating the incident, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
