Boy, 2, will 'always be remembered' after dying three weeks from diagnosis

A two-year-old boy will "always be remembered" after his died just three weeks after a devastating diagnosis.

Jacob Murphy was born 23-weeks premature and spent five months in hospital in 2017. But he had gone on to lead a "happy, healthy and normal life" until he was suddenly rushed to Whiston Hospital after developing a "slight cough".

Mum Chelsea, from St Helens, said her son's lungs had not developed properly after being born prematurely and he was soon diagnosed with the Adenovirus virus. Two-year-old Jacob "fought to the end" but lost his life in 2020, three weeks after the diagnosis.

Adenoviruses are a group of viruses that typically cause respiratory illnesses, such as a common cold, but can become a life-threatening concern for young infants and those with weakened immune systems. Tributes have since come pouring in for the "gorgeous boy".

ECHO reader Carol Killen said: "Heartbreaking news. RIP little one. Gone too soon. Condolences to all his family and friends." Barbara Taylor wrote: "Omg God Bless little fella Rip, such tragic news. Condolences to family. Sending heartfelt prayers to all from Perth Australia."

Natalie Harding added: "You will always be remembered Gorgeous boy", as Pauline Connor said: "So sad. God bless this beautiful little man RIP with the angels. So sorry deepest condolences to his family and friends."

The ECHO previously reported that Chelsea is raising money for Alder Hey Children’s Bereavement Centre, in honour of her son. If you would like to donate to the page more information can be found here.

The 27-year-old said: "We don't know how he got it and it has been hard we take every day as it comes. It is the anniversary of his death in two weeks but his birthdays are a lot harder, it's so difficult when you realise that he is not here to celebrate it. He went through so much and now he is not here. I miss him every day."

ECHO reader Lewis Okwu said: "So sad and sorry to hear about the boy. He will be remembered by his family and friends that he knew and hanged around with. R.I.P to this boy."

Michael John Flaherty added: "May God always watch over you little Angel Jacob."
