Boy, 2, spat at and called 'p*ki' in sickening attack on busy street

A two-year-old boy was spat at and called a 'p*ki' by a man in a sickening racist attack.

Yasmin Johal was pushing son Remy in his pram through Nottingham on Sunday when the 'disgusting' attack happened.

She said the man threatened to "pull him out that push chair and smash his head on the pavement" despite it being in broad daylight on a busy street.

The terrified mum said the attack had left her feeling "sick and shaken up" and scared to leave her house in Nottingham.

Although her son Remy was unharmed, Yasmin revealed it was the second time in as many months she's had to report an incident to police.

She tweeted: "Feeling very sick and shaken up. a man just spat at remy multiple times calling him a disgusting p*ki child and threatening to "pull him out that push chair and smash his head on the pavement". my 2 year old son. who was literally just existing."

"How am I supposed to leave the house every day with my baby and not be terrified of every white man I come across? this is twice in 2 months I've had to go to the police now. the long term damage this will do to me is something he probably didn't even think about. or maybe he did."

Yasmin, a vegan, family and lifestyle vlogger who has her own YouTube channel, wrote that the attack had happened in "broad daylight" on Sunday afternoon.

Remy was targeted while she was in Mansfield with "tons of people" around, she said.

She added: "These people are ruthless, they're not scared of anything. they're proud of being racist & truly believe we don't belong here. I'm sick of it, I really don't feel safe here anymore.

Twitter users described the attack as "disgusting" and "abhorrent".

One wrote: "No single person has the right to say the UK isn't a racist country when things like this happen daily. I'm so so sorry this happened to you."

Another wrote: "Makes me ashamed to be British."

Nottinghamshire Police are now appealing for any witnesses of the attack to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "Nottinghamshire Police was called at around 3pm on Sunday March 1 2020 to Mansfield Road in Sherwood following a report of a racially aggravated public order offence.

"It was reported that a man has racially abused the victims and spat towards them.

"Officers have spoken to the victims and are now investigating local CCTV footage.

"The man has been described as white, bald, wearing a khaki coloured baseball cap, a dark green or brown jacket, blue jeans, black backpack and had a local accent."

Superintendent Matthew McFarlane, Nottinghamshire Police's force lead on hate crime, said: "Racially aggravated public order offences like these are not acceptable.

"This is an awful incident, I fail to comprehend how anyone can abuse and spit at a child like this. Officers are now working hard to try to track down the individual involved.

"Racist incidents will not be tolerated in Nottinghamshire and a lot of work is continuing across the county so we confront issues like these head on.

"If anyone saw the incident or has any information please call 101 quoting incident number 510 of 1 March 2020."
